I regularly attend international conferences in my field and evaluate lessons, practices, and initiatives with the intent to improve upon them. Most every semester, I take online classes that help me improve my library media skills. I create student and faculty surveys that gather data to assess the school library media program.

I often use visual and auditory tools to assist English Language Learners. I advocate for and offer access to online learning tools and websites to assist ELL learners.

I teach information literacy skills such as search engine strategies. I also teach units on website credibility and reliability. I design lessons that help students improve their library skills and find information. I reglarly visit classes in the upper school level, especially during research units, but I need to improve on creating information literacy lessons for lower school learners.

I offer lessons to students and teachers on the use of online subscription databases. I can improve by connecting teachers with subject-specific online sources that assist each curricular area. I advocate for online subscription databases such as encyclopedias, EbscoHost, and Questia. I could improve by asking each teacher for a copy of their curriculum/syllabus so that I'm better informed about class content and projects. Rating = 3

Our library program offers the Scholastic "book draw" during the bi-weekly assemblies. I purchase multiple copies of high-interest books that are popular with students.

I am willing to put in the extra time needed to make a library program successful. During the school year, I am always enrolled in online school library graduate classes. I am currently creating an extensive Library Manual so that the next librarian has a book of resources to integrate library curriculum, procedures and policies. I am also creating curriculum to share with other librarians.

Since I am a new librarian, I am still learning the various roles that the librarian assumes. I recognize that the school library media specialist has a unique and pivotal role in the school community.
