Teaching Philosophy
Students learn best by interaction with others in social settings. My philosophy of teaching follows the social constructivist theory, which emphasizes community and collaboration. My role as an educator is that of facilitator and guide, creating lessons that involve learner agency, creativity, and feedback. My task is to offer activities that give students choice in their learning and a variety of tools and methods by which to demonstrate their learning.
Leading by example, I model what I teach and foster positive relationships with students. I believe that if I do not have their hearts, I will never fully have their minds.
Future Goals as School Library Media Specialist
I hope to gain the skills to collaborate with administrators and faculty to improve curriculum, to become more knowledgeable about educational theories and research that influence professional practice, and to learn how to form and advocate for partnerships within the global learning community. I am especially interested in how the digital age has opened the doors of information exchange in the forms of electronic libraries, collaborated online learning, Web 2.0 environments, and electronic books. I’m excited to see how technology will further advance how we educate others and ourselves.
